Mineral deposition by two enzymes. a Carbonic anhydrase (CA) and a alkaline phosphatase (ALP), has been reported to be done in three steps. Step 1: CA catalyzes the reaction that leads to the formation of calcium carbonate bio-seed. Step 2: Non-enzymatic reaction, that transforms carbonate-phosphate by using the orthophosphate generated as a result of ALP-mediated hydrolysis of polyphosphate. Step 3: Formation of amorphous calcium carbonate as well as hydroxyapatite crystals [15, 21]
